Railing / Gate installation project
The Playfair Project has rejuvenated the National Galleries of Scotland’s presence at The Mound in central Edinburgh by creating a single, integrated complex that links the iconic National Gallery and Royal Scottish Academy buildings.
At a cost of £32 million and five years in construction, this was the most ambitious capital project ever undertaken by the Galleries.
Ballantine Bo’ness were responsible for supplying and erecting all of the ornamental metalwork surrounding these historic buildings in Edinburgh’s city centre. This included around 800 individual balusters, 750 dwarf balusters, just under 900 finials, 20 lamp-posts, ‘lion’ posts, ornamental access ramps and a number of gates made up of over 40 balusters. All the ironwork was moulded in house, fabricated into panels at our Engineering Company and we were responsible for all of the site erection at this popular tourist site in the heart of Edinburgh.
