Supply and Erection of 2km of gates and railings
Ballantine Bo’ness Iron Co. were awarded the contract for the replacement of over 2 Kilometres of railings and gates as part of a £4.3 million restoration programme to restore Baxter Park to its former glory.
The park is steeped in history having been opened in 1863 by David Baxter as a recreational area for the families who worked in his weaving mills. He commissioned Sir Joseph Paxton, who was considered to be one of the best designers of the Victorian era, to design the park, indeed it is the only completed Paxton park in Scotland.
Ballantine Bo’ness supplied all of the railings, moulded in greensand, the three double gates around the park boundary and were wholly responsible for the site erection (please see our specialist gates section for examples of double gates.) In total over 2 kilometres of railings and gates were supplied and erected on time and within budget. The park has been transformed thanks to the work and is a fantastic example of how renewing our architectural heritage can really add value to Public places. For the work carried out a Dundee Civic Trust Award was given for the restoration of the Park.
